If you are studying Hebrews, here are a few overarching themes to keep in mind so it will make sense to you.
First, keep in mind the book of Hebrews was written to first century Jewish Christians around AD 65ish. The author of Hebrews is not known because it was left unsigned, but that doesn't make the book any less valuable to us. It it is important because it fills in some gaps that we need filled concerning who Jesus is outside of the gospels.
Also, it is important to note that these first century Jewish believers in Jesus were under Roman rule. At that time in the Roman Empire, everyone was required to worship the Roman emperor except the Jews. The Jews were allowed to worship only their God, but this exemption did not apply to Jewish Christians. So that made it tough for them to meet and worship Jesus. It would have been easy for them to just join in the traditions they knew and sacrifice a lamb or go to the temple and worship. After all they had Jesus on the inside, so what was wrong with hedging their bets a little, and keep the Romans off of their backs?
Additionally according to history under Nero in the later AD60s, the time of persecution of Christians started getting heavy, so the book Hebrews indicates that they are about to enter into tough times. Also the end of an epoch or age, which was the end of the Old Covenant, was very close. So what the author of Hebrews does is lay out for them why Jesus is better than the Old Covenant that they keep going back to and about to end, and why they need to have faith in Jesus.
Of course while you are reading Hebrews it is good to keep all that in mind, but also the overarching theme: Jesus is superior!
Hebrews 1:1-2 Jesus is superior to prophets
Hebrews 1:4 Jesus is superior to angels
Hebrews 2:14-15 Jesus is superior to the devil
Hebrews 3:1-6 Jesus is superior to Moses
Hebrews 4:14-15 Jesus is superior to the high priest
Hebrews 6:1 Jesus is superior to the law
Hebrews 8:6 Jesus is superior to the Old Covenant
Hebrews 9:11 Jesus is superior to the temple
Certainly the author of Hebrews makes the case very well as to why Jesus is superior to all these things which are mentioned. The author urges them, as well as us today, to have faith in Jesus because even though we cannot see him like the tools of the Old Covenant, Jesus is superior to all the things you could see and touch in the Mosaic law.
Don't step back into the natural, because then you step away from your faith. That is as true today as it was back then. Faith in Jesus is all you have, but it is all you need.
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
